"I Remember"

Doctor, author, and pastor,Edwin Louis Cole, once stated "Obedience is an act of faith; disobedience is the result of unbelief." Unfortunately, I learned the truthfulness of this statement the hard way. That is why I am writing about one of my worst memories i have experienced in my life. When I almost cut the tip of my finger off with a knife.
It happened when i was younger. I don't remember exactly how old I was, but I think I was probably in my early elementary school years. It all started when for some reason I wanted an orange and I wanted to cut it by myself. So I asked my mother if I could cut it by myself. Being the good mother that she is, she told me no because she said that I would cut my finger. I denied that statement and told her that I wouldn't. She still said no even after I thought I made a very convincing speech about how I would be extra careful that sounded good to me at that time.
Me, being the little disobedient child that I could sometimes be ignored my mother and went ahead and got out the orange and knife withour her knowing. I put the orange on a plate and got ready to cut it. Next is where I made the mistake. I didn't realize that I had put my hand too high up on the orange and that my left index finger was right in the line of cutting of the knife. I proceeded to cut through the orange until....... I cut right through almost half the width of my finger! I started screaming and ran into the living room where my mother was sitting. I was screaming "I cut my finger! I cut my finger!" At first my mother thought I was kidding because she had told me not to cut the orange by myself. She thought that I had listened to her and respected her authority. She was wrong.
After my mother realized that I wasnt kidding, she called my grandmother because she works at the Andrew County Ambulance. At this point, I was still in agonizing pain and was in complete shock that I had just cut through my finger and could have caused some serious damage. Luckily, I hadn't caused any serious damage and I was fine after putting a wet wash cloth on the wound for a while. In the end, I definitely learned a lesson...listen to your parents!
